This project consisted of the redevelopment/re-construction of the endcap of an existing shopping center. The renovation included building as well as adjacent site. The existing shopping center consists of multiple attached buildings housing multiple tenants. Our scope of work included the complete demolition of the existing two story endcap building, an intermediate 1 story building and approximately 15’ of another building. As a result of the multiple buildings involved in this project, this project was phased into 3 phases.

Phase 1 involved reinforcing the structure and building a new exterior wall for the building which was being narrowed by 15’.

Phase 2 comprised of the demolition of the endcap and adjacent structures in order to make way for the proposed new endcap store.

Phase 3 was the building of the proposed new endcap to the shopping center.

Part of the challenge on this site was to design a building that would provide an appropriate endcap to the existing aging shopping center. We studied the existing shopping center architecture and came up with a solution that was compatible with the existing building while providing a more prominent presence to the corner of the site. The Town was intimately involved in the renovation of this site and our office worked closely with the Planning Board and Architectural Review Board to generate the final transformation to the building and site underwent resulting in a much desired upgrade to this well traveled site located in the Center of Guilford, CT.
